FAQ

Your questions, answered.

Starting therapy is a personal decision, and it's natural to have questions. Here are the ones we hear most often — if something isn't covered, reach out and we'll talk it through before you commit to anything.

Chapter 01

Beginning care

01Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?

Not at all. You may simply know that something feels off — you are exhausted from overthinking, avoiding things you once enjoyed, or carrying something that will not quite let go. You do not need the right label, and you never have to prove that it is ‘bad enough.’ We will take time to understand what life has felt like for you and help you find the kind of support that makes sense.

02How do I know if Realign is the right fit?

You do not have to know before reaching out. The free 15-minute alignment call is simply a chance to meet us, ask what is on your mind, and notice how the conversation feels. There is no pressure to commit. If we believe someone else could support you better, we will tell you honestly and help point you in the right direction.

03What is the diagnostic assessment?

It may sound formal, but it is not a test and there are no right answers. It is a thoughtful 60-minute first session where you can share what has been happening, what you hope will change, and what has or has not felt helpful before. You can pause, ask questions, or take your time. By the end, you and your clinician will have a clear, personal plan for moving forward.

Chapter 02

Your treatment

04How many sessions will I need?

It is completely understandable to want a clear timeline. The honest answer is that it varies — some concerns are more focused, while others have been woven into life for a long time. We will talk openly about progress as we go, so you always understand what you are working toward and therapy never feels like it is continuing without a reason.

05How often will we meet?

Most people begin with weekly sessions. That steady rhythm helps you feel supported and keeps each session connected to the last, especially while you are learning new ways to respond. As life begins to feel more manageable, you and your clinician can revisit the pace together. Nothing is decided without you.

08What if therapy hasn't worked for me before?

It makes sense if part of you is hesitant to try again. Investing time, hope, and energy in therapy without feeling better can be deeply discouraging. EMDR and ERP are more structured than traditional talk therapy, so this experience may feel different. We will listen closely to what did not work before — not judge it or repeat it — and use what you learned to shape care that feels more useful now.

09Is virtual therapy as effective as in person?

Yes — and for many people, being at home can make the work feel more natural and supported. You can have your own blanket, pet, or grounding objects nearby, and there is no drive home after an emotional session. EMDR adapts well to visual, audio, or guided self-tapping cues. With ERP, you can practice right where anxiety actually shows up — perhaps in your kitchen, car, or daily routine — while your clinician stays with you live. We will always make sure online care feels safe and appropriate for you personally.

Chapter 03

Fees & privacy

06What are the fees?

We want the cost to feel clear before you begin. With either of our licensed specialists, the comprehensive diagnostic assessment is $275 and each ongoing session is $200. There are no different fee levels depending on which clinician or treatment approach is right for you.

07Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept insurance, and we understand that this can be an important part of your decision. If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may ask us for a superbill and decide for yourself whether to submit it for possible reimbursement. We will only prepare one when you request it, and we will never send anything to your insurer automatically. Because every plan is different, it is worth checking your benefits before you begin.

10Is what I share confidential?

Yes. This is your space, and what you share is treated with care and protected by law. There are a few limited exceptions involving immediate safety or required reporting, and your clinician will explain those clearly so nothing feels hidden or surprising. We never send insurance paperwork automatically. If you request a superbill, you decide whether it goes any further. Your care stays yours.
